Ice Machine Cleaning Products

There are a variety of cleaning products on the market. Some are recommended by the ice machine manufacturers and others are suitable for any ice machine make or model. Remember to follow the specific cleaning instructions provided by your manufacturer.

Be certain that you know if your ice machine evaporator plate has nickel or not. Using the wrong kind of cleaner can permanently damage your evaporator by stripping the nickel. If your machine contains nickel, be sure you use a nickel safe ice machine cleaning solution. Many modern ice machine models do not use nickel in the evaporator, so stronger ice machine cleaners are safe to use.

Don't forget that some of the more powerful sanitizing cleaners contain harsh chemicals. Avoid skin and eye contact with these and remember to rinse the intakes, reservoirs, storage bins and drains to remove any chemical residue, since it would be harmful if swallowed. Always run at least one cycle of ice making and dispose of the ice produced since it could also contain chemical residue.
